Film festival looking for experimental films
Deadline:
Early-bird deadline 2nd of May to 14th of June
Regular deadline 15th of June to 31st of August
Late deadline 1th of September to 1st of October
The Mostra del Cinema di Genova is devoted to cinema as an art form. We will privilege, in our selection, films with a poetic or visionary value, experimental and thought provoking films, avant-garde works and innovative languages. Equal importance will be given to fiction and non-fiction works, to features and shorts, and the festival’s Grand Prix, dedicated to Eadweard Muybridge (Grand Prix Pigeon Flying, Plate 755, 2500 euros cash prize) will be assigned to the Best Film, regardless of genre, duration and theme. Ample attention will be given also to films out of competition, both in the form of special screenings and retrospectives, focusing this year on the theme of Memory, meant in both the historical and introspective sense, collective or personal, a Memory of Cinema and a Cinema of Memory.
No other place appeared to us more suitable for our Festival than the city of Genoa, with its port and its contrasts, with its dazzling lights and the darkness of the old town, with a thousand languages and its dialect, its innumerable departures and returns. Our screenings will take place in many different cinemas and film-clubs, chosen by ACEC, our co-founder, both in the heart of old Genoa and in other interesting and multicultural neighborhoods, in the aim of involving in the Festival the whole town. We will also try to find unexpected locations for special screenings, such as disused theatres and abandoned churches. The works selected for the Video Art section of the Festival will be screened at Fotogallery Incantations, in the heart of the ancient Jewish Ghetto.

Contemporary Art Biennale
Deadline: 31 October 2019The third edition of the APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale will deal with the relationship between spirituality and the environment, focusing on the links with the protection of the planet, all species, human or otherwise, and the notion of spirituality within this seminal debate.
In the 1960s and 70s, Malta was at the forefront of globalising this question with its radical policy on the Common Heritage of Mankind pursued by Maltese ambassador to the United Nations, Arvid Pardo, today a concept enshrined in International Law. This crucial historical fact has today been buried by the neoliberal objectives of contemporary society that exploit the planet and negate the question of the continuity of humanity's home.
Life, death, genocides, massacres, genetic engineering, globalised information technology, mass appropriation and destruction of habitats, are a reality of our modern surroundings. How are artists confronting this radical and real apocalyptic threat?
Can art play a role in this conflict between materiality and nature, and if so, what role? Is spirituality a neglected consideration, or is art still preoccupied with suprahuman matters?
Artists are invited to propose artworks using video, sound, light, and virtual reality that engage with the above notions on the relationship between the human species and its role in generating, regenerating, or destroying its own existence on our unique planet.

Art exhibition of works that include sound as a primary element
Deadline: 24 June 2019
New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme Transformations for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2020 programming.
One definition of Transformation is: a marked change in form, nature or appearance. This can be seen in the numerous changes we have been experiencing over the last 10 years in how media artists have used technological advances to create works of art that reflect the transformation of our planet, human experience, social changes, ecological changes caused by overextended use of natural resources, and have e ven changed how we experience art. This also applies just as much to media artists who are using old technologies in new ways to transform the use and/or perception of how art is experienced.
For its 2020 programming, NAISA is interested in submissions of work that address the ideas related to the theme Transformations and creative ways that this theme can be explored. Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme Transformations. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme for performance, interactive installation exhibit, audio-visual screening, radio or internet broadcast, telematics, VR/gaming, mobile experiences and any other emerging or alternative formats that include sound as a primary element.
Entry fee:
$5
All works chosen for presentation will receive an artist fee.

Mail Art exhibition in Turin, Italy
Deadline: 10 June 2019
Few weeks ago the European Parliament approved the Copyright Directive, a law that impose taxes on content diffusion and set upload filters upfront, opposing thus the natural and free sharing of knowledge.
This is not about ethics or morality: the old lobbyies have found a way to steal from the new social media ones’ leftovers, we ain’t gonna take sides on this longbeard-nobeardatall ancap fight.
If this becomes real, we’ll have paytoshare networks(link tax, art.11) and someone or somewhat will judge if your uploads matchtheir “common sense” pubblishing criteria (upload filter, art.13).
Internet freedom is at stake!
While we all face those risks there are many that, selfoutcast from mainstream communities, share and edit their way on the solid and the aethereal ones .
To the decadentism of whom’s filtering and setting knowledge, we oppose a fluxus that is unstoppable, untaxed, unfiltered and uncensored. They just can’t controll everything.
Copycats, collage artists, mashuppers, fakes and plagiarism virtuosos of all countries, unite! Let’s celebrate the fusion of contents and the freedom of speech.
Format: totally free. All kind of culture jamming, collage, patchwork, détournement, ready-made, recycle, anonymous or collective work will be fine.

Open Call for photographers – collective exhibition Berlin
Deadline: 20 June 2019
Exhibition theme: INTERIOR
“What does the interior of a space reveal about its inhabitants? Houses, offices, corridors, waiting rooms… inside spaces are never really neutral. They are built and used by humans with a certain intention or ideology. They are places where people meet, events take place, stories are created. Interior photography, even in the absence of any character, reveals more than what is represented, inviting to wonder what happened or will happen inside, but also outside of the frame. The depicted spaces become like still lives that serve as a tableau of their occupant’s inner life.”
Artist are invited to submit 1 to 3 images embracing the theme.
The competition is open to any living photographer, 18 years of age or older, from any country.
Entry fee:
The competition is free to enter. Once the final images are selected and in order to participate to the exhibition, a financial participation of 29,50 euros/artwork will be requested. After the exhibition, the artists will receive their print for free.

It is impossible to think of reaching sustainable cities and communities in harmony unless we change to improve the way we have managed the construction of cities and their management.
Making cities safe and sustainable means ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, and upgrading slum settlements. It also involves investment in public transport, creating green public spaces, and improving urban planning and management in a way that is both participatory and inclusive.
We are capable of taking responsibility for building the cities we want by putting human dignity at the center of the goals of the raison d'être of large cities. In ruins the buildings will be without people who inhabit them. Parks will be useless without the laughter and freedom of our children. Mobility should be available to everyone, as well as access to water and care for it. We are much more than cars, concrete, violence and economic activity. Let's open our minds to bring the best of ourselves in our space and leave the best possible footprint for future generations. Sharpen the pencils to create: I, Metropoli.
Some specific points you can address in your poster:
Dignified housing
Culture & Art in the city
Access to water
Caring for the environment in the city
Urban transport
Urban poverty
Public spaces
Green areas within the city
Mobility (including bicycle use)

Open call for 360° video works
International video festival DigitalBigScreen 360° (17th – 19th of October 2019)
Delavski dom Trbovlje / Trbovlje new media setting (TNM)
The process of digitalization in cinematography that is finally starting in Slovenia enables the viewing of new contents in a movie theatre; amongst them also the video, and all its derivatives/variations like a video document, or video performance. Until now video artists have been tied to TV or LCD screens, or screenings onto smaller formats. They have been restrained by technical possibilities/capacities.
The DigitalBigScreen Festival has been going on since 2010, with annual augmentations of the programme. We offer those visual artists engaged in video production the possibility to have their works screened on a big cinematic screen, thus enabling them the insight into contemporary visual practice in a new manner. The purpose of the festival is to present videos intended for the screening on a big cinematic screen. Our latest acquisition is a digital Sony SRX-R515P projector, giving the participating authors a high quality presentation of the works. Festival also enables distribution of submitted works into the Slovenian Art Cinema network, therefore extending the audience, that usually doesn’t have access to such contents.
In 2018 festival brings a new concept by exploring new trends in 360° video production. This year’s call is again open for artists working in the field of 360° video.
Compilation of selected works will be (together with technology, required for presentation) also be offered to Slovenian Art Cinema Association to be presented at their cinema venues.
General conditions:
• Free subject
• Maximum video length 10 minutes
• 360°video (mp4 format)
• Maximum 5 works per author
Organiser will select 12 works to feature at the festival. If needed we reserve the right to recode the video into appropriate format for presentation on our existing technology. The jury will also select three works to receive monetary reward. We will also make a printed catalogue featuring festival selection and winning works.
Organizer will also offer the festival selection to the members of Slovenian Art Cinema Association to show at their cinema venues in the form of special free-of-charge events
No entry fee

The jury will select three works to receive monetary reward.

ALTROVE
Altrove is an open call for all the photographers that have explored the suburbs.
We use to think as suburbs as something that stands alongside, outside the centre, that stands altrove (italian for “elsewhere”). Actually they’re often the places of our daily routine: they’re the places of home, in which we live our intimacy, outside of the ever moving, never resting, urban jungle.
It is for this reason, and because of their decentered position, that the suburbs might end up being overlooked, silently sitting out of the spotlight, overshadowed by the pulsating professional, cultural and artistic heart of the city.
Suburbs: fields and factories, industrial and craft areas, but also residential areas; grey, tall and bare buildings or terraced house, fancy and refined townhouses. Nowadays suburb isn’t suburb anymore , but suburbs: a place no longer defined by a single shape, by the border’s or the edge’s pattern, but multi-faceted, fluid and ever changing.
We are searching for photographers able to offer a glance at suburbs, capable of capturing their expressiveness from a personal point of view, revealing one of the thousands shades of their essence.
The open call is open to photographers from already 18 to 35 years old.
Participants must apply just for one series linked to the suburbs theme, composed by a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 7 photos.
