Little Islands Festival is a festival for people, places, ideas, images. A summer feast of audiovisual arts based in Sikinos island with the intent to connect more and more little Greek islands every year. LIF creates the motivation for gatherings outside the city walls and connects a local and international artistic community with the uniqueness of cycladic islands. Little Islands Festival in its third edition, invites artists working on audiovisual and digital creation to submit their proposals in the following categories. The project theme is open.

Artists can submit more than one proposal and in more than one category. A separate application form must be completed for each proposal.

Open call for short films

We’re bringing back the Black Girl* Magic Film Series and we’re looking for short film and video submissions by Black womxn* FTLI filmmakers for a screening during Black History Month in Berlin, Germany. Our third installment of the series is being presented in collaboration with White Guilt Clean Up and Frauenkreise Berlin, where it will take place. The resilience and power of creativity in the face of discrimination, injustice, and everyday violence is truly magical. We are excited to celebrate Blackness beyond mainstream tropes and through the lenses of Black womxn* once again with new filmmakers and and new stories.
What we’re looking for:

Short films and videos by Black womxn* FLTI of any genre and exploring any theme. Bonus for films with themes of creativity, power, resilience, and joy of Black Girl* Magic. We’re looking to fill about 90 minutes of runtime.

Short film contest

Shorts of all genres, styles and narrative forms are allowed, realised from January 1st 2018.

The short films must have a maximum length of 20 minutes (with credits).

Laterale is an international non competitive Festival of cinematic art organized by Associazione Culturale Laterale. Its aim is to enhance the most innovative aspects of audio-visual languages of the contemporary scene and to reduce the distance between artistic research and public involvement. Particular attention is given to young and independent filmmakers and to self-made no-budget works, as result of individual search.

The fourth edition of the LFF will take place in Cosenza (Italy) at Cinema San Nicola from June 8th to 10th 2020. The Festival promotes a free and stimulating project of sharing, that shows what usually is neglected or rejected because of the distance from the conventional way to do and to interpret the cinema. A space that breaks down barriers and prejudices, massification and standardisation, a space that wants to become an artistic laboratory where it is possible to discover now the cinema of the future.

STIFF film festival is looking for the most creative GIF animations to be featured in the special exhibition during STIFF film festival Rijeka, Croatia.

STIFF film festival in cooperation with Gallery SKC opened a new festival category for animated GIF films. The selection of the best works will be screened at the art Gallery SKC during the STIFF Film Festival (17th- 20th October) and will be promoted through our website and social media networks.
Submissions must not exceed 30 seconds, they must be looped, high definition, and in H.264 profile


The theme of the 6th edition of STIFF film festival is Fear. Through its film program, discussions, exhibitions, workshops and masterclasses the festival will discuss the causes and consequences of the culture of fear in Europe and in the world. It will focus on methods of resistance and struggle against fear and oppression with emphasis on cinema and art. We focus on works addressing this theme in a broad sense so be free to apply regardless.

Short film festival

Born in 2000 Fiaticorti is the longest-running film festival in the province of Treviso and one of the first national festivals dedicated to short films.
The Festival is organized and supported by the Municipality of Istrana (TV) and designed by a group of young people under 30.

Short films realized after January 1, 2018.

Maximum running time is 20 (twenty) minutes.


Three sections:
Fiaticorti
This is the main section in the competition, and is thematically open.

FiatiComici.
Into this section fall the shorts which their authors indicate as pertaining to the genres of comedy, satire or slapstick. The authors can choose to participate either in the main section Fiaticorti or in the section FiatiComici. In any case, participation in one section excludes participation in the other one.


FiatiVeneti.
The special section FiatiVeneti is sponsored by Pro Loco di Istrana and is dedicated to short films shot by authors living in Veneto, or films that the committee deems to be representative of Veneto as for their themes or settings. Participation in this section is automatic upon registration, and does not exclude participation in the latter ones.

GLAS ANIMATION GRANT PROGRAM

At the third edition of GLAS Animation Festival we launched the GLAS Animation Grant. This program is designed to fund independent animation filmmakers living and able to work in the United States who are making films outside of academic institutions. As filmmakers ourselves, we had a keen understanding of the lack of opportunities for funds specifically geared towards independent animators working outside of a commercial context, making bold, artistic work. In fact, there were literally no national grants exclusively for animators in the United States. We wanted to change that, and support animation artists making groundbreaking and vital work.

For the 2019 GLAS Animation Grant cycle, two separate $2500 grants (made possible with the support of an Anonymous donor) are to be awarded to two individual filmmakers living and working in the United States to create independent short films.


Criteria

Filmmaker must be living and legally able to work in the United States.
Proposed project must be for an independent short film.
Proposed projects must be able to be completed within 1 year.
Filmmaker may not be enrolled in an academic institution.
Filmmaker must have at least one completed film to show.
Filmmaker must be at least 18 years of age.

This year, the Ruhrtriennale once again invites ten young artists and filmmakers to show their short films in the Third Space at the centre of the festival.

The Ruhrtriennale is the international festival of the arts in the Ruhr Metropolis. The
settings of the Ruhrtriennale are industrial monuments of the Ruhr district, which are
transformed every year in the context of the festival into special performance venues
for music, theatre, literature, dance and visual arts.

We are interested in works that deal with the negotiation of social processes, which take imbalances in power into account and which address the negotiation and overwriting of supposedly “normal” patterns. The focus is on the space between the individual positions and persons, the negotiation and the relationship.

The international conference Breaking Boundaries: Academia, Activism and the Arts proposes to bring into focus and critically question common grounds and boundaries between and within the Humanities, political activity and aesthetic production.

The upcoming international conference Breaking Boundaries: Academia, Activism, and the Arts proposes to bring into focus and critically question common grounds and boundaries between and within the Humanities, political activity and aesthetic production. Over the course of two days, and in a range of formats, with the input of artists, scholars, activists and all those who fall between those boundaries, we propose to engage with a series of questions prompted by current social and political phenomena. As far-right movements gain popularity across Europe, and old and new discriminations appear legitimized by some political leaders around the world, we ask: What is the role of the arts in the current political climate and how can they influence and engage with large- and small-scale politics? How can these artistic processes form and inform academic discourse and what can academic discourse gain from direct dialogue with the arts? What spaces of resistance can be forged in the spheres of art and academy?

We welcome artistic projects - individual or collective - that reflect the topics discussed in the conference. In particular we seek pieces and performances that, via different aesthetic approaches and in relation to different cultural and geopolitical contexts, represent and question the relationship between the arts and political activism, as well as the role of academia in political and artistic fields.

Poster contest

Videoart "CUVO"s festival borns as a result from the desire of bringing together a diversity of
proposals of audiovisual production at a national and international level using a innovative and
rule-breaker point of view.

It's intention is to give the artists an opportunity to promote this proposals in a specific, but at
the same time, itinerant place, making it easier to understand for the viewers of the videoart.

This edition's of the "CUVO" festival subject will revolve around "teen game". We need
the proposals to be linked or related in some way with this idea.

There are no limitations conceptual or experimental-wise. We are open to any type of video
and combinations with picture and sound that result in a shocking or innovative experience.

The festival's display will consist of a selection of 8 videos of the received. There will not be, at
any case, voting, any kind of competition or prizes among the videos.

One video per artist or group

Its recommended to send videos of not more than 5 minutes, and under no circumstance will
be accepted videos above 7 minutes.

In case the agreements with the organizations ends up with a economic compensation, the
money received will be destined to cover the expenses from the diffusion, diets of the
organisers and coordinators, and also to pay the CACHE among the selected artists, which
always will be the 50% of the stablished CANON.

Film festival looking for experimental films

The Mostra del Cinema di Genova is devoted to cinema as an art form. We will privilege, in our selection, films with a poetic or visionary value, experimental and thought provoking films, avant-garde works and innovative languages. Equal importance will be given to fiction and non-fiction works, to features and shorts, and the festival’s Grand Prix, dedicated to Eadweard Muybridge (Grand Prix Pigeon Flying, Plate 755, 2500 euros cash prize) will be assigned to the Best Film, regardless of genre, duration and theme. Ample attention will be given also to films out of competition, both in the form of special screenings and retrospectives, focusing this year on the theme of Memory, meant in both the historical and introspective sense, collective or personal, a Memory of Cinema and a Cinema of Memory.

No other place appeared to us more suitable for our Festival than the city of Genoa, with its port and its contrasts, with its dazzling lights and the darkness of the old town, with a thousand languages and its dialect, its innumerable departures and returns. Our screenings will take place in many different cinemas and film-clubs, chosen by ACEC, our co-founder, both in the heart of old Genoa and in other interesting and multicultural neighborhoods, in the aim of involving in the Festival the whole town. We will also try to find unexpected locations for special screenings, such as disused theatres and abandoned churches. The works selected for the Video Art section of the Festival will be screened at Fotogallery Incantations, in the heart of the ancient Jewish Ghetto.

SFC Shoah Film Collection is looking for new contributions in order to continue the successfull story starting on 27 January 2010 – the International Holocaust Memorial Day – commemorating the 65th liberation of the Concentration Camp of Auschwitz, when this unique media art and peace initiative was laucnhed in the context of “Draft Title: Shoah” and “A Virtual Memorial Foundation”

Since then each year on 27 Januar, Shoah Film Collection is releasing traditionally its new call for the coming year – so also this year, on Friday, 27 January 2076..

This media art and peace initiative by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne, media artist and curator from Cologne (artvideoKOELN international) is addressed to the young generations of artists and filmmakers to deal with the topic of Shoah and collective trauma caused by totalitarianism by using new (audio-visual) technologies and contemporary approaches in order to keep vivid the memory of the collective trauma by senstizing people via art. During the past years, a collection of 120 outstanding art film and videos by artists from 27 countries deveoped, from the experiment to the documentary.

This initiative becomes even more relevant in these current times which are marked by uprising political rightist and populist movements all over the world generating anti-semitism, xenophobia and racism.

As a part of the Audiovisual Collections @ The New Museum of Networked Art, Shoah Film Collection was now generating a new presentation format, eg d/i/light – Darkness Into Light Festival, which allows to present the collection of films and videos as a whole or in parts as a festival and the installation in the context of an exhibition. Additionally, Shoah Film Collection is also corporate part of global networking project – The W:OW Project – We Are One World – http://wow.engad.org – which was launched in December 2016 by The New Museum of Networked Art.

Between 2010 and 2017, there were in total 13 major presentations in Russia, Poland, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Cambodia, Israel and USA, whereby 2012 the first pilot project, standing under the Patronage of the European Parliament was realised in Latvia – A Virtual Memorial Riga 2012 – dedicated to the victims of Riga Ghetto, to be followed by the pilot project in Lithuania 2013 – A Virtual Memorial Vilnius 2013 – a tribute to the victims of Vilna Ghetto, “A Virtual Memorial Warsaw 2013 -a tribute to the victims of Warsaw Ghetto and A Virtual Memorial Milan 2014 – a tribute to the Italian victims of Holocaust – all events were standing under the Patronage of the European Parliament. Shoah Film Collection would like to bring closer to the people what the Holocaust is meaning to mankind and future generations by encouraging artists to face and reflect the aspect of humanity which was lost widely during the era of Nazizm, but not completely. Now more than 70 years after the end of the Holocaust, however, it can be stated, the Holocaust was never really finished, because in all parts on the globe authoritarian systems were waging war against the own people and practiced genocides, and they still do.

The Holocaust must not happen again!
