The Foundation of Lower Saxony grant at the Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art supports a wide spectrum of media art, from video art and net-based projects to audio works and audio-visual installations.
Each of the three grants will be awarded for the production of a new project in the area of media art.

The grant is valid for a duration of six months (July–December 2020). It cannot be prolonged and residency is compulsory; grant recipients can expect to stay in Oldenburg at least one month.

Grant for research project in France

As a higher education institute, ésam Caen/Cherbourg trains creators in the fields of art, graphic design and edition. In partnership with the École supérieure d'art et design Le Havre-Rouen and the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Normandie within the ComUE Normandie-Université, ésam Caen/Cherbourg created the practice-led PhD program RADIAN. Besides, ésam Caen/Cherbourg developed several experimental research projects consisting of constant round trips between theoretical reflection and artistic practices. ésam Caen/Cherbourg invites applicants for an artistic research residency in 2020—2021 at the Laboratoire Modulaire, dedicated to artistic practices in digital environment.

The call is aimed at artists conducting a research related to the issues raised by Laboratoire Modulaire and working on digital practices and technologies. A public presentation of the project will be expected at the end of the residency.

The research residency will run from spring 2020 to spring 2021. It includes a grant of 10,000 euros which covers stipend, production costs, travel and per diem (payment will be made in two instalments, 2/3 at the beginning of the residence, 1/3 at the beginning of 2021).

Research residency in France

The call is aimed at artists conducting a research related to the issues raised by Laboratoire Modulaire and working on digital practices and technologies. A public presentation of the project will be expected at the end of the residency.

The artist-researcher will participate in Laboratoire Modulaire's activities: meetings with the team, artistic and research events, invitations to artists, theoreticians, researchers, etc. He will also have the opportunity to be part of the organization of such activities.

The residency is dedicated to the implementation of a research project. However, because of the close links between research and pedagogy of an art school, pedagogical interventions may take place and will be the subject of a specific agreement.

The research residency will run from spring 2020 to spring 2021

Photography grant

The Aftermath Project is a non-profit organization committed to telling the other half of the story of conflict — the story of what it takes for individuals to learn to live again, to rebuild destroyed lives and homes, to restore civil societies, to address the lingering wounds of war while struggling to create new avenues for peace.

There is no specific time frame that defines “aftermath,” although in general The Aftermath Project seeks to support stories which are no longer being covered by the mainstream media, or which have been ignored by the media. In general, conflict should be over for a situation to be deemed an “aftermath.” There are specific cases, however, where conflict may have continued for so long, or be the result of an aftermath situation, that they will be considered to be within the scope of The Aftermath Project. If you have doubts about whether your proposal meets these guidelines, please email aftermathprojectinfo@gmail.com.
Proposals should include an explanation of the specific aftermath issues related to the project being proposed, as well as an overview of the applicant’s plans for covering the story during the course of the grant year — i.e, the proposed timing of trips, etc. You MUST inform The Aftermath Project if you have any commercial commitments or contracts related to the project you are proposing, including book deals and exhibitions. Failure to do so on the part of a grant winner will automatically terminate the grant, and the winner will forfeit any funds s/he has not yet received from The Aftermath Project.

Photo award

Deadline: 20th September 2019

This award is open to all photographers and/or videographers living in Europe and under 40 years of age. LE BAL will support the laureate in completing an already-initiated creative project over a two year period. Priority will be given to projects falling under the broad spectrum of the documentary image, still and motion, representing diverse world hypotheses, positions, and constructions of human experience.

Entry must include:
a coherent series of 15 (fifteen) to 20 (twenty) photographs from his or her current
project, maximum format 30 x 40 cm, marked with the name of the artist on the back,
And/or 1 (one) to 3 (three) videos in .mp4, .mov or .avi format, on a CD, DVS or USB stick
marked with the name of the artist

Prizes:
The winner will receive a grant of 20,000 euros to complete their project. In autumn 2021 the work carried out by the winner will be displayed at LE BAL (exhibition, screening, installation) and will be the subject of a publication co-edited by LE BAL and a publisher chosen  by LE BAL.

GLAS ANIMATION GRANT PROGRAM

At the third edition of GLAS Animation Festival we launched the GLAS Animation Grant. This program is designed to fund independent animation filmmakers living and able to work in the United States who are making films outside of academic institutions. As filmmakers ourselves, we had a keen understanding of the lack of opportunities for funds specifically geared towards independent animators working outside of a commercial context, making bold, artistic work. In fact, there were literally no national grants exclusively for animators in the United States. We wanted to change that, and support animation artists making groundbreaking and vital work.

For the 2019 GLAS Animation Grant cycle, two separate $2500 grants (made possible with the support of an Anonymous donor) are to be awarded to two individual filmmakers living and working in the United States to create independent short films.


Criteria

Filmmaker must be living and legally able to work in the United States.
Proposed project must be for an independent short film.
Proposed projects must be able to be completed within 1 year.
Filmmaker may not be enrolled in an academic institution.
Filmmaker must have at least one completed film to show.
Filmmaker must be at least 18 years of age.
