Open call for performance artists

On December 14 in the space of the Fabryka Sztuki in Łódź (3 Tymienieckiego Street) we open the exhibition dedicated to the activities of the former Łódź art gallery ŚLAD (1978–1987) led by Janusz Zagrodzki.


In addition to multimedia shows and presentations of works by artists over the years associated with the gallery (including Ryszard Waśko, Natalia LL, Józef Robakowski, Zbigniew Warpechowski, Paweł Kwiek, Elżbieta Kalinowska and Wolf Kahlen), on December 15 we will present the most interesting performances of artists selected in open call.


So:
1. Send a short biographical note by e-mail, including your existing artistic activities. Send e-mail to: galeriawy@gmail.com
2. Describe the concept of work / performative activity, including its length and (potential) documentation.
3. List the hardware requirements provided by the organizer.
4. List own equipment used to carry out the action.
As part of the ŚLAD exhibition and festival, the organizer provides a fee covering remuneration / accommodation / travel costs.

Art residency in New York

3 month residencies for 2 artists in a quarterly cycle starting January 1, 2020. Brooklyn, New York.

Starting January 2020, Kunstraum now offers 3-month residencies for two artists (national and international) in a quarterly cycle.

Founded by artists for artists, Kunstraum is a studio hub, incubator, and gallery space in Brooklyn with the mission to provide affordable spaces to artists that fosters exchange and networking opportunities. Located between the historical neighborhood of Clinton Hill and newly developed Navy Yard, Kunstraum spreads out between two bright and renovated artist lofts.

Residency fee:
 $600 per month for a 3-month term


Residency offers:
– Studio space with 24/7 access (workspace only no living)
– Two studio visits per month by New York curators, gallerists, critics, art advisers (full list below) – Social media promotion
– Website promotion
– Access to gallery space between ongoing exhibition program (4 shows per year)
– Summer show participation including professional documentation and online sales for 6 months – Access to events and community, networking with other New York creatives

The studio spaces have 24/7 access with 13ft ceilings, a freight elevator, slop sink, secure Wifi and are used for non-toxic materials only – the painters work on non-toxic basis. Blick Art Supply, hardware stores, post office, print shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and delis are just 1.5 blocks away, and Home Depot is as close as 10 blocks.

No living is included. The resident artist is responsible to find own living arrangements. Referrals to short- term listings can be provided.

Illustration contest

Deadline: 31 October 2019

All work teams or individuals over 18 years of age may participate in this award regardless of their country of residence.

Each participant is only able to submit a  single work. In the case of entering as a team, all members should indicate their names.
The work must have been created between January 2018 and October 30th, 2019.
The subject of the illustrations must be related to science or nature and the technique is free.

The measure of the illustration must be A3 (420 x 297mm) 72 DPI in RGB and it should not include watermarks or text (except signatures, numbers or figure letters and symbols).

The Wake Up! Memorial
will be adding in 2020 a new section dedicated to the “climate change” to be presented online, as well as in physical space via curated screenings.

Artists working with audio-visual media are invited to submit works in the field of film/video and sonic art
on the topic – “Climate Change!” and preseving the natural environment on Earth for future generations..

As a term or catchword, “Climate Change” is ambivalent – it describes a process, development or state which can be reversible, as well as irreversible – reversible, this includes for an individual the option to take personally influence on one’s environment and prevent actively “the climate change” as an irreversible process or state – irreversible, it is too late to take any influence, and “climate change” means nothing else than the “Last Days” (of humanity, of the natural environment, the world as we know, etc). One has to accept the inevitable destiny. In its widest sense, “climate” can be understood as “environment”.

Short films/short videos may have a maximum duration of 10 minutes (exceptions possible) in many formats ranging from documentary via artvideo to experimental film.

 Contemporary Art Biennale

The third edition of the APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale will deal with the relationship between spirituality and the environment, focusing on the links with the protection of the planet, all species, human or otherwise, and the notion of spirituality within this seminal debate.

In the 1960s and 70s, Malta was at the forefront of globalising this question with its radical policy on the Common Heritage of Mankind pursued by Maltese ambassador to the United Nations, Arvid Pardo, today a concept enshrined in International Law. This crucial historical fact has today been buried by the neoliberal objectives of contemporary society that exploit the planet and negate the question of the continuity of humanity's home.

Life, death, genocides, massacres, genetic engineering, globalised information technology, mass appropriation and destruction of habitats, are a reality of our modern surroundings. How are artists confronting this radical and real apocalyptic threat?

Can art play a role in this conflict between materiality and nature, and if so, what role? Is spirituality a neglected consideration, or is art still preoccupied with suprahuman matters?

 Artists are invited to propose artworks using video, sound, light, and virtual reality that engage with the above notions on the relationship between the human species and its role in generating, regenerating, or destroying its own existence on our unique planet.
