Rijksstudio Award is the biennial art- and design prize from the Rijksmuseum. With this competition the Rijksmuseum invites everyone to create their own masterpiece inspired by the Rijksmuseum's collection.

All art forms are possible, such as photos, videos, animations, products, fashion, collages or poems.

Open call for poets and filmmakers

Poets, media artists, video artists, and filmmakers are called to submit their work to The 3rd Annual Film and Video Poetry Symposium!

Through the month of July 2020 this festival and symposium will screen a large scope of film and video projects developed through the medium of poetry. The symposium programmers also curate and present a 30-day gallery exhibit in conjunction with the film screenings. There are no restrictions regarding when films or video work are produced or if the work has premiered regionally or internationally. There are also no running time restrictions.

The Film and Video Poetry Symposium is accepting digital-poetry, poetry video, Cin(E)-Poetry, spoken word films, videopoema, choreopoems, visual poetry, poetry films, filmpoems, poetronica, and media poetry.

The Film and Video Poetry Symposium also encourages experimental film and video work that explores language and/or literature whether it be oral, written, visual, or symbolic. This includes the essay film or cinematic essay, non-narrative work, and the avant-guard. We strongly consider work that challenges traditional and current visual communication methods while continuing to function as a mode for experimenting with narrative and personal expression.

Performance material, virtual reality projects, video mapping, installation proposals, and video art presentations that hybrid text or contain strong aspects of poetry are encouraged.

Poetry prize

The Moth Poetry Prize is one of the biggest prizes in the world for a single unpublished poem. The prize is open to anyone (over 16) as long as the poem is previously unpublished, and each year it attracts thousands of entries from new and established poets from over 50 countries worldwide.

There is a no line limit, and the poems can be on any subject.

Entries must be in English, typed, with each entry on a new sheet.

Folie/Culture invites all those who express themselves through music, poetry, performance, deglutition, car burnouts and all other potential audio works to contribute to the Radio Silence call for projects.

As part of our current theme Walk on Eggshells!, Folie/Culture is looking for audio proposals that combine the injunction and the exemplary—intrinsic to our repressive societies—with audio art.


As Barthes stated in his book Mythologies (1957), advertising and slogans possess the organized ability to communicate something while being of no arbitrariness, no conditionality—the same as a truth.

Thus, Radio Silence will occupy the radio advertising space of the program Québec Réveille on CKIA 88.3 FM for 25 seconds, risking—perhaps—to break the flow of “meaning overload” inherent to advertising messages.


These audio segments, broadcasted live during advertising and available as podcasts on the Internet, will allow us to question society’s injunction to the exemplary, to the docile. So, let’s ask ourselves this: how does the monstrous express itself when it is usually muzzled?

Regarding Zines: we’re looking for all kinds of proposals (photography, comic/illustration, poetry, narrative...), b&w and between 8 and 12 pages long. The format you prefer although it can’t be bigger than an A5. We work mostly with projects in Catalan, Spanish and English, but every language is welcome and encouraged!

-Prints/Postals: the standard format is an A5, printed. If your proposal requires another format and different printing methods (screenprinting, risograph, etc) you can specify and we’ll talk about it 👀

-It’s not mandatory to do the project from scratch/on purpose for this open call. You can send anything, even if you’ve already published it elsewhere or if it’s an old work, and we’ll be more than happy.

Art residency in New York

For the fourth 店面 Residency, we are calling for individual artists or a pair of artistic collaborators to create a window display for the storefront at 26 Mott Street in New York City in celebration of the lunar new year and the year of the rat.

This is a funded 6-month residency runs from September 1, 2019 to February 31, 2020. There are no restrictions on artists’ mediums, age, nationality, ethnicity, gender, or any other criteria. Visual artists, writers, poets, activists, filmmakers, curators, designers, architects, makers & tinkerers and more are all invited to apply. We only require that applicants be based in the New York area with a preference given to those who currently reside in Chinatown. We strongly encourage members of the Asian diaspora and those with a socially engaged practice to apply.

Open call for writers residency in Switzerland

The Jan Michalski Foundation is inviting applications for its fourth annual writers’ residency program. The residencies take place at the foot of Switzerland’s Jura Mountains and the selected writers each live and work in modern treehouses.

Writers from around the world are invited to apply, and applications from new or emerging writers are welcome.

Residencies can run from between two weeks and six months, and the length of stay should match the scope of the project.

As well as receiving accommodation in their own treehouse, residents will be paid a monthly allowance of 1200 Swiss Francs (approximately US$1200). Travel expenses will also be covered by the foundation and daily breakfasts and lunches are provided. Residents can also participate in cultural activities organised by the Foundation.

The international conference Breaking Boundaries: Academia, Activism and the Arts proposes to bring into focus and critically question common grounds and boundaries between and within the Humanities, political activity and aesthetic production.

The upcoming international conference Breaking Boundaries: Academia, Activism, and the Arts proposes to bring into focus and critically question common grounds and boundaries between and within the Humanities, political activity and aesthetic production. Over the course of two days, and in a range of formats, with the input of artists, scholars, activists and all those who fall between those boundaries, we propose to engage with a series of questions prompted by current social and political phenomena. As far-right movements gain popularity across Europe, and old and new discriminations appear legitimized by some political leaders around the world, we ask: What is the role of the arts in the current political climate and how can they influence and engage with large- and small-scale politics? How can these artistic processes form and inform academic discourse and what can academic discourse gain from direct dialogue with the arts? What spaces of resistance can be forged in the spheres of art and academy?

We welcome artistic projects - individual or collective - that reflect the topics discussed in the conference. In particular we seek pieces and performances that, via different aesthetic approaches and in relation to different cultural and geopolitical contexts, represent and question the relationship between the arts and political activism, as well as the role of academia in political and artistic fields.

THEME: SURFACE/SUPPORT
The theme "Surface/Support” is taken from perhaps the last modern art movement from France. The experimental movement named “Support/Surface,” and led by the influential Louis Cane.

After the failure of Situationism and the socio-political May 1968 events in Paris - the Support/Surface artists had to reconsider the function of art; what it should be; what it could be…

Acting almost in direct rebellion to the political scene of the time, they chose the most 'establishment' of artistic mediums to do so; placing painting at the centre of their exploratory practices. However, despite this traditional material choice, they rejected many aspects of 'past art’ to try and find an art suitable for the 1960s/1970s.

Whether they were successful/failed is open to discussion.

“Support/Surface” was the last international avant-garde art movement coming from France and active artists were in touch with the Abstract Expressionists in the USA. Following this period Pop art, neo Dada, Performance, video art, Conceptualism, Postmodernism and so on all took place. These were and/or are all trans-national movements.

The theme is also open to any painting, printing, sculpture, film which emphasises the surface or the medium rather than the content/subject.


Any artist can apply: visual artists, painters, drawers, sculptors, printmakers, mixed media artists, videoartists,  poets, creative writers, storytellers, performance artists, street artists, musicians, puppeteers, designers, makers and so on.
