Organised by Tragaluz Editores, the fifth edition of the Tragaluz International Illustration Award asks illustrators to draw what a house means for you. What it looks like, who inhabits it, what makes it a place one wants to go once and again.

This competition is open to illustrators from all countries who meet the following criteria: adult participants who submit illustrations that are unpublished and have not been submitted to other competitions recently.


Each artist may submit only one illustration. You are free to use the technique of their choice.

The results will be published on Tragaluz’s website and social networks (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) during Fiesta del Libro y la Cultura de Medellín, September 15, 2019.

The Creative Knowledge Project is a 12-month artist residency based at the new Lakeside Centre, Thamesmead. This year-long residency – with accommodation and studio space – is a rare and exciting opportunity for an artist to live and work on the water’s edge of one of the most iconic Brutalist estates of the 1960s, working with the community to explore the potential for their new library building.

Art residency in New York

For the fourth 店面 Residency, we are calling for individual artists or a pair of artistic collaborators to create a window display for the storefront at 26 Mott Street in New York City in celebration of the lunar new year and the year of the rat.

This is a funded 6-month residency runs from September 1, 2019 to February 31, 2020. There are no restrictions on artists’ mediums, age, nationality, ethnicity, gender, or any other criteria. Visual artists, writers, poets, activists, filmmakers, curators, designers, architects, makers & tinkerers and more are all invited to apply. We only require that applicants be based in the New York area with a preference given to those who currently reside in Chinatown. Art residency in Tallin

Kai Art Center is a new cultural hub for local and international art, located in the historic and culturally- vibrant Noblessner area on Tallinn’s waterfront. Kai is set to open in September 2019 in a former submarine production plant and will present four main exhibitions each year in collaboration with Estonian and international curators, and its 100-seat auditorium will host a programme of events drawn from all fields of culture. In addition to the residency, the exhibition space and the auditorium, Kai Art Center has a shared office space for up to five Estonian art organisations.

Kai Residency
Kai Art Center’s core programme, the Kai Residency invites international visual artists, curators, writers and other contemporary art professionals to apply for its inaugural programme. The residency provides the opportunity for selected participants to live and work in Tallinn for between two and four weeks, while being immersed in the city’s dynamic art scene. Launching in October 2019, the Kai Residency will host up to 14 participants in its first year. Five places in the programme will be specifically allocated for residents from the Nordic and Baltic countries.

Residents will be invited to take full advantage of all activities taking place at Kai Art Center, including exhibition tours, talks, screenings and seminars. Residents will also be expected to present one public program (a talk, screening, gathering or other event), to introduce their work and research to local audiences.

Residency offers:
Kai Art Center will cover all costs of the incoming residents including travel to and from Tallinn, local transport, accommodation and administrative support. The resident will have a private furnished 20 square metre room in the newly-built Kai Art Center facilities, as well as access to WiFi, a shared kitchen area and bathroom with shower. Workspace will not be offered. With this in mind, Kai is particularly interested in artists and other professionals with a research-based practice, or those intending to undertake research rather than production during their residency.

Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art (Al Ma’mal), is a non-profit organization based in a former tile factory inside the Old City of Jerusalem.

Open call for writers residency in Switzerland

The Jan Michalski Foundation is inviting applications for its fourth annual writers’ residency program. The residencies take place at the foot of Switzerland’s Jura Mountains and the selected writers each live and work in modern treehouses.

Writers from around the world are invited to apply, and applications from new or emerging writers are welcome.

Residencies can run from between two weeks and six months, and the length of stay should match the scope of the project.

As well as receiving accommodation in their own treehouse, residents will be paid a monthly allowance of 1200 Swiss Francs (approximately US$1200). Travel expenses will also be covered by the foundation and daily breakfasts and lunches are provided. Residents can also participate in cultural activities organised by the Foundation.

Art residency / Cyprus 2019/2020

The Post-fossil Creature -residency program is meant for researchers, artists, artisans, makers and post-makers of research and implement theory, who are working on understanding the technological, fossil fuel generated, modern experience and/or imagining the period of transition to an ecologically sustainable post-fossil society.

The program is divided into two, three month long periods: May-July and September-November. Special residencies are also possible in the winter.

We aim to promote and facilitate artistic work and research in all disciplines.

The founding purpose of the residency program is to combine research with contemporary art. The aim is to extend the theoretical to the realm of experience and vice versa, searching for neglected and overlooked aspects that in turn can advance our understanding and research. Examples of areas of interest are:

– Theoretical, psychological and experiential critique of the dominant contemporary ideology, especially in relation to technology and ecology.

– Artistic practices on the social, psychological and political aspects of our ideological predicament.

– Artistic practices on biology, geology, ecology, otherness, fossil fuels, the Anthropocene and science.

– Artistic practices concerned with critique of technology, dismantling/reusing technology and social impacts of technology.


Accommodation facilities include three rooms in the residency house.

For selected artists there are no other costs than the accommodation. The rent is the only cost for the selected researchers and artists and includes all the basic facilities: shared kitchen and bathroom, internet, electricity and water. The rents are 300-450 Euros per month, depending on the room. Buying food, fire wood and personal necessities is the responsibility of the guests.

Financial support for artists

i-Portunus is a short-term pilot project, selected and funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, to trial a mobility scheme for artists and culture professionals. It is managed by a consortium headed by the Goethe-Institut with Institut français, Izolyatsia and Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Between April and September 2019, i-Portunus will issue three Calls for Applications, providing support for international mobilities of artists active in the fields of the performing or visual arts and residing in a Creative Europe country (see list opposite). The destination of the mobility must be a Creative Europe country. These mobilities must have a specific and well-defined objective, such as to develop an international collaboration, to engage in a production-oriented residency or in professional development, to present work in another country or to develop projects with local communities in the destination country.

A first Call for Applications ran from 17th April to 15th May 2019 and resulted in over 1,200 valid applications being received. These were analysed and taken into account for the preparation of the second Call.

The second Call was issued on June 3rd 2019 and closed on June 24th. It resulted in 520 individual applications and 190 group applications covering a total of 1.141 individuals. The selected applicants will be announced on July 19th.

The third Call for Applications of this pilot programme will be launched on August 14th. It will be the last of three calls to financially support the mobility of artists and culture professionals of all ages, nationalities, educational qualifications and levels of experience, legally residing in a country participating in the Creative Europe programme choosing a cross-border mobility to a country participating in the Creative Europe programme.

Workshop for artists

We are a studio for digital art, design & culture based in Leipzig. Our works and programs intersect art, design, technology, science and philosophy.

For several years we create free and commissioned artistic works with sound and light in space such as installations, compositions, sounddesigns, performances and concert productions for exhibitions and live shows. Our interdisciplinary team is specialized on 3d audio, visual and interaction design. Currently we are developing a software for 3d audio live performance and studio production. As a cultural institution we host an annually growing program of artist residencies, digital art labs, workshops and events.


We are happy to announce the third edition of Wisp Laboratory, which is going to happen at Kontor80 in Leipzig from 23rd to 29th of September.
We welcome artists from across the globe to apply for this unique workshop.
From 23rd to 27th of September the participants will create concepts and set-up an exhibition/performance/concert space (e.g. 3d audio system, 360° projection, VR, light, sensors) together with the workshop hosts and have time to prepare their shows for the final presentations. In the evenings/nights of the 28th and 29th of September the results will be presented to an audience.

Born in 2000 Fiaticorti is the longest-running film festival in the province of Treviso and one of the first national festivals dedicated to short films.
The Festival is organized and supported by the Municipality of Istrana (TV) and designed by a group of young people under 30.

This is the main section in the competition, and is thematically open.

FiatiVeneti.
The special section FiatiVeneti is sponsored by Pro Loco di Istrana and is dedicated to short films shot by authors living in Veneto, or films that the committee deems to be representative of Veneto as for their themes or settings. Participation in this section is automatic upon registration, and does not exclude participation in the latter ones.

Show us which formal and content-related rules you personally act on – and which ones you think should definitely be broken.

Tapirulan’s illustration competition is celebrating its first 15 years, so it is no longer a normal competition, but we can consider it, rather proudly, a super competition, open to all superillustrators.

Any medium and technique is allowed.
Each artwork must be square-shaped, not smaller than 25×25 centimetres and not bigger than 40×40 centimetres.
If the artwork is applied on a panel or frame, it must not exceed 3 mm in thickness.

Each artist  may submit only one illustration.

producers and show technicians, that, from July 5, 2019 to August 9, 2019, the registration for
the submission of integrating the schedule of the cultural center, during the period from 16
September 2019 to 17 July 2020. The areas of interest are visual arts, performing arts, music,
creative writing, fashion and handicrafts.

The artistic residency programs of the NAVE Centre of Arts intends to build connections,
encourage dialogues, incentivize the creation and innovation of artistic languages and creative
processes, enable the production and dissemination of research works, presentations and
works of art, mediate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and promote the
enjoyment the art and strengthen its social dynamics.

GLAS ANIMATION GRANT PROGRAM

At the third edition of GLAS Animation Festival we launched the GLAS Animation Grant. This program is designed to fund independent animation filmmakers living and able to work in the United States who are making films outside of academic institutions. As filmmakers ourselves, we had a keen understanding of the lack of opportunities for funds specifically geared towards independent animators working outside of a commercial context, making bold, artistic work. In fact, there were literally no national grants exclusively for animators in the United States. We wanted to change that, and support animation artists making groundbreaking and vital work.

For the 2019 GLAS Animation Grant cycle, two separate $2500 grants (made possible with the support of an Anonymous donor) are to be awarded to two individual filmmakers living and working in the United States to create independent short films.

Art residency in Armenia

In August 2019, Pegasus Tandzaver, together with European Union and People In
Need support, organises the 1° Edition of Land Art Residence in Tandzaver village
called “Magic Forest”.
Magic Forest Artist Residence is the first of this kind in the whole Armenia. Its aim is
to protect the forest around Tandzaver village by creating a focus of attention thanks
to the interrelation between artistic and nature languages. 10 LandArt projects will be
selected and placed in a 5,5km hiking trail that goes down the hillside of Ashkharates
mountain, reference of miths and legends of the village.
During the 10 days of Residence many activities will be oranised in order to integrate
Tandzaver community with the artists, specially the children. Among those activities,
each artist will give a conference about their life and artwork.
Pegasus Tandzaver addresses to Armenian and International artists an Open Call to
submit their LandArt projects.

The participation is open to artists of every nationality, working individually or in a
group.
Eligible projects:
Pieces of art that can be included in the LandArt movement: sustainable and

This year, the Ruhrtriennale invites three young artists and/or collectives from North Rhine-Westphalia to develop performances in the smallest of spaces and to show them once on 20 September 2019 at 9.30 p.m. in the Third Space on the forecourt of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum. As a performance space, each of the three artists/collectives has a “cabin” available, which is to be performed in for a period of three hours under the motto Cabin Crew Night. The form is free: from performance loops or durationals to participative one-on-one performances through to dance, mini stage formats or performative table discussions – a great deal is possible.

Cohabitation inside the house will be the workshop starting point and together that of arrival. Circadian rhythms, satisfaction of primary needs, distribution of different tasks, construction of private spaces in a context of cohabitation, sharing time and environments in moments of collective work, partying as a way to break routine, party becoming a new routine: what would happen if all this was meticulously observed, noted down and scripted? What would we do with our bodies, our movements and gestures, if we could write down – for 24h – the playwrighting of our own daily life?
During this ten-days-workshop, passing through exercises of theatrical and performative source, readings, discussions, writing and composition moments, together with all suggestions coming from participants, we will walk on the border between the superficial, distracted dimension of everyday life, and the aesthetic, iper-conscious dimension of artistic forms. Starting from what we will be, and what we will have – our being together in that specific house – we will experience practices, techniques and attitudes aiming to find that braking moment when the shifts from one dimension to the other occurs: these training forms belong both to actors preparing for the scene and to artists preparing for their production. That hybrid dimension, that meanwhile moment we will find ourselves in, will be a fertile territory for new discoveries about our gestures, our voice, about how we use space, our way of looking at it, the way we carry our body, the way we are carried by it.
This workshop aims to develop a real dramaturgy of the group's daily routine in the house, which will be performed on the last day, under collective direction.

Workshop is open to researchers, artists, curators, actors, dancers, musicians, but also people working in every field of practice and everyone who is in general interested in the workshop core subject.

Transversal Aesthetics is a platform for experimentation with art, education and social space. A place of confluence between artistic practices as a space for critical research; educational activities as a space for the production of content, interaction and transfer of learning; and the urban context as a space of relationship between specific themes of work and a specific active social space surrounding it.

IDENSITAT and CENTRO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DE HUARTE offer a residency to an artist or group of artists to develop a project within the social context of the towns of Huarte, Burlada and Villava (Navarra). International artists residency in Armenia

TAI is pleased to announce open call for international artists in our Artists-in-Residence program for 2019 in Talin/Artagatsotn region.
In 2019 we are starting the new AiR program in rural areas of Armenia. Our first destination is Talin and villages nearby: Ashnak, Eghnik, Katnaghbyur, Bazmaberd etc.
The aim of this project is to:
• promote interest, awareness and understanding of contemporary art  in a rural community through engagement with an artist
• develop contemporary arts projects in rural communities , offer a unique opportunity to an artist wishing to develop his or her practice by working and living in a remote rural community
• create connection between international and local artists/local community
• spread the international art opportunities
• engage the community in cultural life by organizing art workshops, language courses and screenings…

With each residency TAI  aims to achieve a balance between the opportunity to the artist to develop and exhibit new work and the opportunity to local people to benefit from the program of engagement with the artist. The  selected artist will develop  their project  for exhibition/show for  the end of the residency and engages with individuals and groups from the area. In parallel they will do workshops for the local young people/artists,  language course (TBD), screenings to engage the locals and introduce them famous artists/directors, artists' talks  and other events. We  look for artists who feel that 2  months spent living in an isolated rural location will significantly benefit their practice and who enjoy contact with people and want to be part of a community.
It's aim is to develop its residency program as a space for creative experiments; where artists from diverse practices are encouraged to collaborate and exchange with one another to form alternative discourse in contemporary art. In support of the artists, TAI offers opportunities to engage with the locals by promoting projects (exhibition, etc.) .
The call is open to artists working in the field of visual arts such as painting, installation, photograph, video, media art, community art, and etc.

Residency offers:
The duration of the project is 1-2 months, during which the selected participants will have accommodation in Talin, food, creative space, materials.
Travel costs will be covered 50-100 % (depends on tickets’ prices)
During the residency the expenses will be covered by the organizers.

Additional expectations / opportunities
In order to apply for “AiR in rural areas” program , artists must submit project proposals (up to 300 words) indicating how they plan to use their stay in Talin, what kind of art project / work should be created and developed. We are looking for works that can be shown both online and offline and that respond to some aspects of the following writing:

Crypto mining hubs are appearing in Arctic regions where energy is cheap and the ambient air temperature cools down servers. To mine the virtual pirate gold non-stop, without letting machines rest, one must consider the energy-intensive processes that occur in the background. At the other end of the continent, the southern crypto havens have been increasing their fibre internet connection speeds to attract the new digital colonial settlers and their energy consuming activities. They keep laying new underwater cables to increase connectivity, to ensure digital security and a stable growth. Crypto haven economies depend on light signals passing through a one-inch-wide fibre cable, which adds a vulnerability to the whole venture. The tangible meets the virtual in our decaying bodies. We fight against this decay with a gym membership or DIY bicycle-powered PCs. What happens to the body when we are engrossed in the virtual? Does time pass differently for our bodies when our minds are active in cyberspace? The energy consuming cyber exchange is also occurring in our bodies, where every interaction we have online slowly drains our resources. Maybe being able to upload our energy (our “self”) to the cloud is not such a bad idea, if that means that we can stop battling our physical decay?

International Salon of Art in Poland

The BWA Gallery in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski in 2019 returns in a new edition. The 14th International Autumn Salon of Art will be presented in the revitalized, enlarged exhibition space of the BWA Gallery, which is a part of the Ostrowiec Brewery of Culture. The competition is a review of the most interesting creative attitudes of Polish and foreign artists. It creates comparative opportunities that will allow us to place our achievements in the field of fine arts against the wider background of European art. The competition conditions specified in the regulations guarantee a high artistic level of the post-competition exhibition.


The competition is open to artists/graduates and last year students of art schools – Bachelor or Master’s degrees / artists associated in art associations.

The competition is open to artworks created in 2017-2019

Each artist may submit documentation of up to 3 works

Entry fee:
25 USD / or 23 EUR

Awards:
Grand Prix – “Homo Quadratus Ostroviensis” statuette
a money prize in the amount of: – PLN 10,000
and an individual exhibition at the BWA Ostrowiec Gallery

Art competition "Nature"

This is an international competition and artists from around the world are welcome to submit their work. The Nature theme may include everything that is nature related, (landscapes, seascapes, skies, world of flora and fauna, etc). A variety of interpretations of nature theme can be submitted (representative, abstract, conceptual). All visual art mediums are acceptable (painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage or installation art) except sound and video art.


Artists must be 18 years or older to apply

Dance Film Festival

Bucharest International Dance Film Festival invites film directors, choreographers, visual artists, animators and musicians to submit their short films and/or feature film scripts in development to the fifth edition of the festival.

BIDFF is becoming bigger and more diverse. Besides our regular international and national competition dedicated to short dance films, this year we have opened a new competitional category for musicals. Moreover, we highly encourage you to apply if you have a movement themed animation or if you have a film that is centered on the concept of embodiment.

The competition is dedicated only to short films and the board will take into considerations fiction, documentary and musical films, that either use movement to explore an idea, either speak about issues related to the body and the world of dance.

Starting with this edition, the events dedicated to professionals are part of E X P A N D. The E X P A N D industry platform includes the Script Development Lab, looking for creators that have scripts for feature or medium-length films in the first phase of development.
